Feast Of Love: Love in many facets

Tagline: A story for anyone with an appetite for love

Now, this is about love, again....I recently watched this movie. When I saw the dvd cover, I was thinking that it could be another version of "Love Actually" and it is right to some extent. But contentwise, this movie is much on the darker and heavy side (well, dark movie for christmast? big NO NO I guess - referring to Love Actually).

This is a story about a close community in Oregon, centered to a local professor: Harry Stevenson (Morgan Freeman) which then be around and analysing and involved in the neighbouring love matters. There are several sections of the story, which all of them are intertwined:

1. Harry Stevenson and wife, Esther lost their son Aaron due to overdose. He still thinks that he was not good enough as a father to his son.

2. Bradley Smith's stories involved 3 women. His wife, Kathryn left him for some other woman. The struggling, surprise and then acceptance of Kathryn that she actually is a homosexual was completely missed by her wife, just adding up to her decision to leave her husband. For her, it was a long thorough process and thinking.. but to her husband. He even didn't realized until the room was empty and she's completely gone. Second woman was a real-estate agent that he feel in love and hurriedly asked in marriage. Turns out that Diana, the woman just used him to make her lover jealous. At the end, her lover divorced his wife and they just together again. Led by desperation and pain, radley then foolishly tried to cut himself. Then, when the doctor banded his wound and asked him why he did that to himself, he replied: "There's so much pain in my heart and I want my body feel the pain I got in my heart". Then, he fell in love again with the doctor.

3.Young Romeo and his Juliet, Oscar and Chloe.. they felt in love instantly at first sight, have big dreams and have to face the problems, bad-ass father, money problem, fortuneteller, and death. Yet, they never be apart.

Below I took the comment IMDB user filled about this movie.

"I was down from Maine last week and was lucky enough to attend a screening of Feast of Love in New York City. I can't stop thinking about this film. It raises so many questions. What makes us fall in love with someone? If you love a person enough can you make them fall in love with you? With all the people who cross your path why do you fall in love with one but not the others? What is it that makes you fall in love with someone at first sight? How could you be married to someone and not have any idea that that person no longer loves you back? In the end the film gives hope to all of us who have loved and lost that we can find love again, and that that love can come in many different forms and configurations. The movie made me laugh and made me cry. The acting was wonderful and I felt the characters heartbreak as well as their blind optimism. The nude scenes, although explicit, were a natural as part of the relationships of the characters. If you're looking for a film to make you laugh, make you cry and make you think then this would be a good film for you. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. "

I have a slightly different comment regading the structure of the movie, since there are a lot of things uncleared: such as: what about Oscar drugs problem? What is the story for Kathryn after she left with Janie?.
But really this movie can fully describe the purpose, to show the viewer, what love can be, can form, can happen, can choose and can't choose, can't be explained, can mislead, can hurt...

Some excerpts of the dialog:

Harry Stevenson: "There is a story about the Greek Gods; they were bored so they invented human beings, but they were still bored so they invented love, then they weren't bored any longer. So they decided to try love for themselves. And finally, they invented laughter, so they could stand it."
BRADLEY: "Chloe knew what was going to happen to Oscar. She did. She went to some weird psychic lady who predicted it."
HARRY: "She believed her?"
BRADLEY: "Oh, yeah."
Harry’s face turns solemn as he pieces something together.
BRADLEY (cont’d): "But she didn’t run away. Or crawl into a hole. No, she found them a house. Threw away her birth control. Married him."
(beat)
BRADLEY: "God doesn’t hate us, Harry. If he did, he wouldn’t have made our hearts so brave"

Bradley Thomas: "Do you think love is a trick or do you think it's the only reason there is to this crazy dream?"
Jenny: "Which do you believe?"
Bradley Thomas: "The second one. "

Harry Stevenson: "Sometimes you don't know you've crossed a line until you're already on the other side."

There's even a dedicated website for the fans of this movie and book (well, apparently there's a book to look for)

Talking about LOVE: it is one of the most explained unexplained thing I guessed:). the result of yahoo search engine after i type the word "love" is 7,820,000,000 result in 0.16sec, not to forget that this is only the same word in english language only.
What I believe right now about love is: Love will depends on how we see it, so, in a way, it's true that there are many facets of love. Yes, it can hurt and kill or cure at the other side. Yes it is a win-or-loose or it is a take-and-give. Yes, it can be very deceptive and sincere at the same time. Yes, it is a very private thing and yet very shared. Yes, it is precisely unique and universal. Yes, it is black-and-white, and colored and also has no color at all. Yes, it is as light as the feather and heavy as rock. Yest, it can be very accurate and random. Yes, it is bitter and sweet and sour. Yes, it can be very forgiven and very unforgiven or somewhere in between.

Looked like today's my day is all about love, then I listened to a song by Andy Williams: Both Sides Now

The lyrics is so beautifully decsribing the different forms of love:

Both Sides Now

Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere, i've looked at cloud that way.
But now they only block the sun, they rain and snow on everyone.
So many things i would have done but clouds got in my way.
I've looked at clouds from both sides now,
From up and down, and still somehowIt's cloud illusions i recall.
I really don't know clouds at all.
Moons and junes and ferris wheels, the dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real; i've looked at love that way.
But now it's just another show. you leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know, don't give yourself away.
I've looked at love from both sides now,From give and take, and still somehow
It's love's illusions i recall.
I really don't know love at all.
Tears and fears and feeling proud to say "i love you" right out loud,
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds, i've looked at life that way.
But now old friends are acting strange, they shake their heads, they say
I've changed.Something's lost but something's gained in living every day.
I've looked at life from both sides now,From win and lose, and still somehowIt's life's illusions i recall.
I really don't know life at all.

So, that's a Love 101 class.... and be prepared that this class will never end.. the test and quizzes and appraisal will still exist.. but there will be no final mark!

(a fool of love)
